Take a deep breath with me for a moment.
Is there something you have been waiting for? A home of your own. The right person. A little more money at the end of the month. A dream you have carried quietly for years.
And while you wait, does a small, tired voice sometimes whisper, “What if it never happens?”
If so, I want you to know that you are not alone. I have been there too. And today I would love to share what finally changed for me: something I call calm expectation.
🌿 Why the Waiting Feels So Hard
Waiting is rarely the problem. Worrying while we wait is.
When we want something deeply, the mind loves to check. Is it here yet? Why not? What am I doing wrong? Every check brings a little more tension, and that tension quietly tells us the opposite of what we want to believe.
We say, “I am ready for my good.”
But inside, we feel, “It is not coming.”
And that inner contradiction matters.
💖 My Own Story of Waiting
I was single for many years. In Chinese culture there is a strong belief that you should marry and settle down in your twenties, and I felt that loving, well-meaning pressure all the time. I dated. Nothing worked out. As I got older, I feared I would grow old alone, and at the same time I longed to be married.
Then one day I spoke with a fortune teller. He told me I had nothing to worry about: the right man was coming.
In that moment, something in me relaxed. My energy changed from anxious and desperate to calm, happy and expectant.
Two months later, I met the man who would become my husband. We married nine months after that, when I was 33, and we have now been happily married for nineteen years.
I don’t believe the magic was in the fortune teller’s words. The magic was that his words allowed my mind to relax, stop fighting, and expect a good outcome. I wrote about this moment in my book, because it taught me one of the most important lessons of my life.
✨ What Calm Expectation Really Means
Calm expectation is not pretending, and it is not giving up.
It is the quiet, settled feeling of someone who knows that what they asked for is on its way. Think of your dream like a delivery: it is already packed, it is already on the way, and it will arrive at your door at the right time.
You don’t stand at the window all day waiting for a parcel. You get on with your day, gently and happily, because you know it is coming.
Patience is not waiting. It is trusting.
🌸 Anxious Hoping vs Calm Expectation
Here is how the two feel from the inside:
- Anxious hoping: “Please, please let it happen.”
Calm expectation: “It is on its way to me.” - Anxious hoping: checking for signs every hour.
Calm expectation: noticing good things and smiling. - Anxious hoping: “Why does everyone else get it and not me?”
Calm expectation: “My moment will come.” - Anxious hoping: tight shoulders, a clenched heart.
Calm expectation: soft breath, an open heart.
You may notice yourself on both sides in the same day. That is completely normal. We are simply learning to spend a little more time on the calm side.
🌙 5 Gentle Ways to Practise Calm Expectation
1. Feel it once, deeply, then let it rest
Once a day, close your eyes and imagine your dream already fulfilled. How does it feel to be there? Let the feeling be warm and real. Then open your eyes and let it go, the way you would post a letter and walk away.
If you would like to go deeper with this, my guide to Neville Goddard’s Feeling Is the Secret explains why the feeling matters so much.
2. Speak as someone who is expecting
Gently change your words from wishing to becoming. Instead of “I hope it happens one day,” try:
“I expect good things, and I am getting ready.”
3. Catch the worry kindly
When the worried voice appears, don’t scold yourself. Simply notice it, place a hand on your heart, and say softly, “Thank you, but I don’t need to worry about this anymore. It is on its way.”
4. Prepare a little, as if it is coming
Expectation is not only a feeling; it is also a small action. Make a space, learn something, tidy a corner, put a little aside. Each small step quietly says, “I believe this is real.”
5. Fill the waiting with joy
The waiting season is still your life. Enjoy a cup of tea in the sunshine, a walk, a call with someone you love. Joy is not a distraction from your dream. It is the very feeling that keeps your heart open to receive it. My post on the small joys in life is full of simple ideas.
🍀 The Same Principle for Your Money Dreams
In my book, I explain that the exact same principle applies to money dreams. When you stop worrying about how or when it will happen, and step into calm expectation, you allow your good to find its way to you.
If your dream includes a lottery win or more financial ease, I share the mindset and gentle rituals I use in my book, Make Your Lottery Win Come True, including the full story of my own waiting season. And please always play responsibly, only ever spending what you can comfortably afford.

💛 A Soft Closing for Your Heart
You don’t have to know when.
You don’t have to know how.
You only have to soften, trust and keep your heart open.
May your worries grow quieter.
May your heart feel lighter.
May your good find you in expected and unexpected ways.
And may the waiting become a gentle, happy time of getting ready.
I would love to hear what you are lovingly waiting for. Please leave a comment. I will read every one.
With warmth and gratitude,
Lily Grace
